Shohin Development with Guest Artist Dawn Koetting
“Shohin” is a Japanese term meaning “small thing” and refers to a category of bonsai trees under 8-10 inches in height. Join the Austin Bonsai Society for our monthly meeting where award-winning bonsai artist Dawn Koetting will be demonstrating how to develop these miniature bonsai trees.

Speaker Bio: Dawn Koetting is a multiple award-winning bonsai artist based out of Louisiana. Dawn has been practicing the art of Bonsai since 1986 and has had her trees featured in multiple U.S. National Bonsai Exhibitions. Though her personal collection includes a wide range of sizes, she specializes in shohin bonsai, particularly tropical species. Her trees have won Best in Show on three separate occasions at the Lone Star Bonsai Federation show and her Flat Top Bald Cypress was awarded the 2019 John Naka Award from the American Bonsai Society In addition to her skills in bonsai, Dawn Koetting is a talented painter and pastel artist. Her works have appeared in numerous juried shows around the country and abroad.
