Austin Herb Society May Meeting: Fiesta de Flores
May 5 @ 9:30 am – 12:00 pm

Austin Herb Society President Molly Ogorzaly will explore the symbolism of the colors we choose in our lives and landscapes. Colorful spring celebrations like May Day, Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day offer the perfect opportunity to talk about the colors that “speak’ to us as well as the ways we choose and use color in floral bouquets and our gardens.
As part of the program, attendees will have the opportunity to create and take home their own “tussie-mussie,” a small, handheld bouquet made popular during the Victorian era. Flowers and other herb sprigs were chosen for their symbolic meanings as well as their beauty and fragrance, which helped mask the unpleasant “odors” prevalent in 1800s London.
