
Day of Bonsai

Come join the Austin Bonsai Society for the club’s Day of Bonsai. There will be bonsai trees of ABS members on display all day, a Chinese Calligraphy station, and a Bald Cypress bonsai lecture and demo by visiting artist Randy Bennett of Louisiana. Open to the public and free to attend with garden admission; free for Conservancy members.
The Randy Bennett demonstration will be taking place at 1:30 pm.
Speaker Bio: Randy Bennett is a national award-winning artist from Louisiana with over 50 years experience in bonsai. Randy received his first bonsai tree as a gift from his father in 1971 and a passion was born. He grew and shaped his knowledge in the Greater New Orleans Bonsai Society and studied extensively under Vaughn Banting as well as many other renowned bonsai artists. Randy works on all types of trees, but has an affinity for deciduous trees, particularly bald cypresses.
In addition to teaching bonsai, Randy enjoys martial arts and holds a 4th degree blackbelt in Sibpalgee kung fu specializing in classical weapons. He just released his book “Bonsai Designs: Bald Cypresses” that he dedicated to his friend and mentor, Vaughn Banting. Available in paperback and digitally on Amazon.
