SUMMARY:Jessica's Orchid Haus Adventures
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Heart of Texas Orchid Society’s August meeting! \n\n\n\nThis month the featured speaker will be Jessica Robertson\, co-owner of Backbone Valley Nursery in Marble Falls\, Texas. Come to hear about Jessica’s adventures with the orchids she grows.  \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n\n\nJessica Robertson grew up in the Texas Hill Country surrounded by peach trees and watermelon patches. Her grandfather\, Simon Burg\, pioneered the peach industry in the Marble Falls area\, and her grandmother Anita was an all-around gardener. Her father carried on the farming tradition. \n\n\n\nWhile attending Texas State University\, Jessica discovered an unattended orchid in a horticulture greenhouse. She brought it home & sought help for it at a Heart of Texas Orchid Society meeting. Jessicagraduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology & Biochemistry. \n\n\n\nJessica continued collecting orchids and learning about their culture. She was an active HOTOS member who served on its board including serving as HOTOS’s president. She and her husband\, Ben\, have grown many different genera of orchids. Some of her favorites are paphiopedilums and Australian dendrobiums.
