Speaker Bio: Tom Mirenda is a renowned personality in the world of orchids. He’s an established author who writes two columns monthly for Orchids Magazine, has co-authored The Book of Orchids, and also has researched and written about thousands of orchid species and hybrids. Tom spent almost two decades as the Orchid Collection Specialist at the Smithsonian Institution where he annually cultivated and exhibited thousands of orchids to a myriad of museum visitors in extensive world-class educational displays. A world traveler, Tom has ventured to five continents specifically to observe orchids in their wild, natural habitats. He tours regularly spreading his knowledge and passion all over the world on a variety of orchid topics. This passion has led him to be a true advocate for orchid conservation. As the leader of the OGCN (Orchid Garden Conservation Network), Tom has collaborators of like-minded individuals and institutions all working towards in-situ, ex-situ and circa situm conservation efforts worldwide. His goal is to connect all the fine efforts around the globe into a consortium that can collectively make a true impact on the preservation of orchid species for generations to come.
