SUMMARY:UV Night Walk
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT \n\n\n\nJoin the Central Texas Mycological Society for a family-friendly celebration of the garden at night. We will explore the diverse\, nocturnal ecosystem of Zilker Botanical Garden with UV flashlights to look for night pollinators\, glowing plants\, fungus\, lichens and more.  \n\n\n\nAngel Schatz will be leading this walk! A little about Angel: She radiates a passion for understanding the ecosystem of central Texas and making gardening with mushrooms accessible to anyone who shares an interest. Not only is she part of the leadership team of the Central Texas Mycological Society\, but Austin Organic Gardeners as well; harmonizing vegetable gardening and mushroom growing\, particularly by using recycled mushroom blocks. \n\n\n\nGuests will learn how fungi is entangled in the garden helping plants gain water and nutrients\, creating the pigments that give flowers their beautiful colors\, to helping plants communicate with pollinators. We will have UV flashlights for you to see the diverse\, nocturnal ecosystem in a new light. You can also purchase your own here. \n\n\n\nWe will be giving away recycled mushroom blocks\, and warm reishi mushroom tea will be available so bring an insulated mug. Get creative with glowing outfits and face paint and don’t forget your camera and tripod. \n\n\n\nLearn more here about how some plants\, mushrooms\, lichens and insects have evolved color patterns that are visible in the ultraviolet portion of the electromagnetic light spectrum\, which humans cannot see but many insects\, birds and animals can see. \n\n\n\nPlease register below so that we can plan for your attendance!
