Zilker Botanical Garden will host a variety of family-friendly activities as part of the City of Austin’s 5th Annual Roots & Wings Festival, during the month of October. The festival is Austin’s annual community-wide celebration of Arbor Day and Monarch Appreciation Day, connecting nature lovers with trees, butterflies, bees, and all the natural beauty our city offers.

Upcoming Roots & Wings Festival Events at Zilker Botanical Garden:
October 22, 10:30 am-11:30 am
Join as Sean Ngai presents on the less popular pollinators that tend to be overlooked but still play an essential role. This will take place in the Garden Center Auditorium.
Roots & Wings Festival Celebration | October 29, 9 am-1 pm
9 am-1 pm: Join in the Oak Grove for monarch banding and tagging and fun family-friendly activities for all, and even walk through a tent with 200 live butterflies
11 am-12 pm: Join as Professor Pricklethorn gives an entertaining educational presentation about trees
12 pm, 1 pm: Monarch Release in the pollinator garden.
Author Read Aloud with Collin Pine + Backyard Pollinator Garden Workshop
October 30, 10:30 am-12:00 pm
Register in advance for this free reading of the brand new children’s book, The Garden Next Door. Author Collin Pine will debut this new release virtually and participants can tune in online or join in person. For in-person participants, we will provide one free plant to the first 50 participants to demonstrate how to transplant plants at home. We will also provide flower seeds and demonstrate how to plant pollinator plants in your own container or backyard garden from seed.
