Samantha Chee, the Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy’s summer intern, wrapped up her time with us last week – we couldn’t be prouder of what she’s accomplished here!
To close out her internship, she presented the research that she’s been conducting on the microclimates of the Zilker Botanical Garden, where she analyzed which of our themed gardens is the coolest in temperature and why. Check out the presentation linked below to read more about her findings!
Special thanks to the Garden Club of Austin for making this internship possible, and for the City of Austin horticulture staff for supporting Samantha during her time here.

Samantha pictured here with her trusty hygrometer, a tool that she used to conduct her research this summer. A hygrometer is an instrument that measures humidity: that is, how much water vapor is present in the air. This instrument can also measure temperature, and these two data points, temperature and relative humidity, formed the foundation of Samantha’s research project.
