Austin Pond Society Monthly Meeting – Drip Irrigation with Ted PAONE
July 17, 2023 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
🎏 AUSTIN POND SOCIETY JULY MEETING 🎏
Our speaker will be TED PAONE – DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEMS!!
(Presentation & discussion)
Plants need three things to thrive: the proper amount of sunlight, a good growing medium, and water. In this heat, the latter is always in hard supply – especially for container plants.
About the Presenter
Ted is a much-loved Board member and self-taught irrigation master for the Austin Pond Society.
In addition to his home garden, Ted is the head gardener at his church’s community garden where he has experimented with different techniques to improve the harvest.
Ted Paone began container gardening when his wife, Rosemary, claimed all the land around the house as “her garden.” Unable to water the plants every day, he got started with drip irrigation over 30 years ago. Tools and components have changed in that time and his pot garden (no, not that kind) has grown, at one time with over 200 planters. Over the years, he has applied his engineering skills to expand drip irrigation systems to be more flexible and save water while killing fewer plants.
In addition to his home garden, Ted is the head gardener at his church’s community garden where he has experimented with different techniques to improve the harvest. However, not all of them have been successful.
Join us as he shares his philosophy behind drip irrigation, examines the components to use and avoid, and steps through a planning session for a new section in his garden.
Snacks and refreshments are provided and desserts are much appreciated!
