TWiG – Talks and Walks in the Garden with AAGC Garden Clubs
January 6 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Join for a Texas Star Mushroom Garden Walk!
Talks and Walks in the Garden (TWiG) is a monthly workshop presented by one of AAGC’s garden clubs and offers educational opportunities as you walk through Zilker Botanical Gardens with other gardeners.
This month, join the Austin Organic Gardeners and the Central Texas Mycological Society to learn about mushroom gardening and to look for our new state mushroom Texas Star Mushroom also known as the Devil’s Cigar. Chorioactis geaster. It is unique to our state and is only found in a few other geographic locations – Japan and Taiwan. Scientists are perplexed as to why it is so geographically distributed and separated genetically by 18 million years. The mushroom hisses when it opens and spreads its spore.
