TWiG – Talks and Walks in the Garden with AAGC Garden Clubs, Welcoming Winter: Ecology in Your December Garden
December 2, 2023 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Talks and Walks in the Garden (TWiG) is presented by AAGC garden clubs and offers learning opportunities as you stroll and observe with fellow gardeners. As landscapes change with the first frosts, wildlife is still dependent on our landscapes for food and habitat. This month, West Lake Hills Garden Club discusses the benefits of fallen leaves, mature seed heads, and hollow stems highlighting plants in the Herb Garden and the Butterfly Garden. They’ll also touch on the soil benefits of letting your garden rest in Winter, requiring less work in the Springtime. The walk will conclude in Oak Grove, with a hands-on activity. Participants will dissect a winter seed head and take home harvested seed.
The group will meet outside the Garden Center at 11 am. Families and children are welcome!
About the Presenters
Madelynn Arnold and Sara Evans are friends who found a bond as lifelong learners, nature nuts, and school garden educators. Currently serving their local garden club as program coordinators, they’re keenly interested in researching and sharing information on Austin’s local ecology. What’s native? What’s visiting? How can our man-made and maintained landscapes provide the food and habitats needed to conserve local ecology? Join them as they discuss native and adapted plants and techniques for maintaining landscapes in harmony with nature.
