National Garden Week

Join us at the Garden as we celebrate National Garden Week (June 1-8) with a weeklong series of events and programs. From educational workshops to guided tours, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy is proud to partner with the Austin Area Garden Council (AAGC) to bring these exciting programs. Explore the events below and join us in celebrating the beauty of nature!

All programs below are included with general admission and are free for Conservancy members.

Home Grown Austin Show & Sale
9:30 am-5:30 pm
Join us for the 67th Annual Flower Show and Plant Sale, a vibrant celebration of nature and gardening! Presented by The Garden Club of Austin, this year’s event will feature special guests, including the Austin Area Begonia Society and Texas Bamboo Society, offering a wide variety of exquisite plants for sale.
Included with admission, free for Conservancy members.

Talks & Walks in the Garden: How to Grow Roses and Make Rose Products
11:00am-12:30pm
Come learn how to successfully grow roses in our tough Central Texas microclimates and soil types. We’ll show how to use your roses for health as an herb, in skincare products and for making beautiful delicious foods. We’ll meet in the rose & herb gardens along the hillside stairs. Presented by the Austin Herb Society.
Included with admission, free for Conservancy members.

Our Favorite Herbs, Austin Herb Society Meeting
9:30 am-11:30 am
AHS is known for its hospitality and herbal snacks, and always welcomes visitors. Join for the meeting then enjoy a program on “Our Favorite Herbs” presented by Lucinda Rudin and Brigid Larson where members share tips, recipes, and lessons learned about their favorite herbs.
Open to the public, free to attend.

Stanhopeas, Heart of Texas Orchid Society Meeting
6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Join us this month for the Heart of Texas Orchid Society’s meeting about Stanhopeas! The featured speaker will be Laurie Skov, owner of Orchids & Tropical, presenting on Stanhopea Orchids. Please Note: Laurie will present off-site via Zoom. Participants are welcome to join us in person in
Zilker Auditorium to socialize and watch his presentation on the big screen.

Ikebana Demonstration (Japanese Flower Arrangement)
9:30am-12:00pm
Join Austin Ikebana Group’s June event featuring Professor Vivian Miller. The theme will be “A Midsummer Daydream” to express the beauty of early summer in Central Texas. The Format will be an ikebana jiyuka or freestyle arrangement in a vertical or slanting shape.
This event is free to the public (adult only) as guest observers in person (no flower materials provided), or via Zoom. Please RSVP to austinikebanagroup@gmail.com.

The Principles of Sustainable Gardening

Are you interested in saving money, time, and energy on your garden? In this program, ZBGC’s Education Director Matthew Gaston teaches folks the principles of sustainable gardening and how to implement these principles into your own garden. Following the presentation, Matthew will lead folks on a tour of the Green Garden, which exemplifies the principles of sustainable gardening.

This registration for the class is free with a separate purchase of admission to the garden. Free for members.

The Resilient Gardener
12:00 pm-12:50 pm
Wrap up National Garden Week with this educational program! Led by Karen Kalergis, a nationally recognized speaker on resiliency, this session draws from research, practice wisdom herbal lore, and a few lessons learned in the Garden. Join us for a fun and informative session that will make you more resilient in the garden and in life.

This registration for the class is free with a separate purchase of admission to the garden. Free for members.

Guests interested in attending both of the presentations on June 8th will need to register for each separately but only need to pay for admission once.
