In June of 1961, the Heart of Texas Orchid Society (HOTOS) was organized by our charter members: Dr. & Mrs. S.W. Bohls , Mr. & Mrs. R. Brooks Oakley, Mr. Ed Peterson, Mr. Colin Seale, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Schmitt and Mr. & Mrs. W.B. Wardlow. The purpose of the HOTOS, a non-profit, educational organization, is to stimulate an interest in orchids, relative to their propagation, conservation, growth, cultural methods, nomenclature, and their exhibition. Here we are 60 years later celebrating orchids and carrying on their original vision for the society.
Membership in the Heart of Texas Orchid Society is open to anyone interested in orchids. Joining our society provides you the opportunity to see orchids from around the world and learn how to grow these beautiful plants in your home, on a windowsill, or in your own greenhouse.
Our monthly meetings are fun and exciting! Normally we have a different speaker or special guest who provides all of us with valuable information on how to be successful orchid growers and hobbyists. It’s a chance to meet like-minded orchid lovers and to socialize. We currently hold an annual plant auction, greenhouse tour, Orchid Show and new grower’s seminar.
You can find HOTOS on Facebook and Instagram.
