Graft Fruit Trees with Figbeard-CANCELED

Do you want to learn the horticultural skills and techniques of fruit tree propagation? In this workshop, you will practice and learn the art of grafting fruit trees, and you will graft your very own persimmon tree to take home with you! Fruit tree expert Figbeard will lead us through the fascinating history of fruit tree propagation, and will teach modern approaches, materials, and skills to graft fruit trees for Central Texas. The workshop will be 2 hours, including presentation, introduction to materials, tree grafting, and Q&A.

Materials Provided to Guests
All tree and grafting materials optimized for beginner grafting:

  • “Practice Scions” for Guests to experiment and gain feel for cutting scions;
  • Precisely sized persimmon scions from extremely productive tree in East Austin;
  • Precisely sized 3-year-old native persimmon rootstock;
  • Rootstock in specialty vertical tree pot;
  • Pro-Grow soil from Whittlesey Landscape Supplies;
  • Specialty horticultural tapes to experience and use for grafting; and
  • Cut-proof glove for each Guest (returned to Figbeard after class).

Materials Guests Should Bring:

  • Bypass Hand Pruners
  • Utility Knife or Grafting Knife
